We can help you with any need you have in residential construction. This includes air conditioning, roofing, plumbing, carpentry and other normal service / maintnance type of problems. Even if it is not something we handle in house we have a full line of profesionals that help us with projects on a regular basis.

I know handy men that offer to do work alot cheaper than contractors, so why use a contractor?

Handy men are just fine to use on small jobs. However, the problem comes when they try to tackle bigger projects that some of them just aren't qualified to do. They aren't licensed, they don't pull permits and they don't use contracts. These are all things that protect you the home owner.

Do contractors need a special license to do work and pull permits?

Yes, all contractors are required to have licenses to perform work in the construction field. Each city may have it's own set of rules and regulations governing permits and licenses. We recommend you contact the city in which you live to fully understand what is required in your area. The State of Texas also has a contractors license.

Should I get a permit to do work on my house?

From the City of Galveston's web-site : "Construction without a permit will result in double or triple permit fees, and may result in corrective action through Municipal Court. We are here to help you with any questions, so please contact staff in advance of your project to avoid any delays in obtaining your permit(s). " Besides those problems doing certain types of work to your home without the proper permits can even lead to home owners loss claims not being covered by thier insurance policies.

Does Roth Enterprises use contracts? What does it do?

Yes, on every job we do. These contracts are for the benefit of both you the customer and the company.  Contracts typically outline the work to be done, the location the work is to be done at, the price for the work that is to be done.

Should a contractor ask for money up front?

There are times when some moneny up front maybe required. Typically when money up front is required to start larger projects and help cover  some of the costs envolved with starting that project. If you are going to give a contractor money the times and amounts of money you are giving him should be outlined in a contract that is signed by both the contractor and project owner. NEVER GIVE ANY CONTRACTOR MONEY WITHOUT A SIGNED CONTRACT!
